Desert Springs plays host to many tour professionals and Elite Groups. 2015 saw the resort host both the England Ashes Team for their pre-series get together and the final event on the PGA Europro Tour. The Europro event will return in October of 2016, showcasing many of the young players who are contending for their place on the Challenge Tour, the final step to the main European Tour.

One of the recent visitors was three times European Tour Winner and Sky Golf pundit Nick Dougherty, and this is what he had to say about the resort:

“The resort is one of the best golf resorts I have been to in Europe. The facilities for practice are second to none and Desert Springs is a great place for players of all standards to come to improve their game and have fun at the same time.

The location and host facilities were absolutely beyond our expectations and the accommodation provided was excellent. The resort staff were overly helpful, friendly and amazing!”

The Indiana Golf Course

Now to the main event, the golf course itself…….

Inspired by the famous desert courses of Arizona and California, The Indiana course is the first desert course in Europe and has been built to the full USGA specifications and quality standards of these desert courses, now famous for the quality of golf that they offer. It presents unforgettable views, and golf of such a dramatic nature that it can be said to have taken not only desert golf, but also golf in general in this part of Spain to a new level of excellence.

The practice facilities are second to none and include:

  • A 20 bay covered driving range with permanent astro turf mats
  • A grass practice area of 2000 sq.m.
  • Target greens
  • Fairway and green side bunkers
  • Putting green
  • Chipping green
  • 2 Huxley All Weather Practice Areas

It is no coincidence that Desert Springs is used by both the English and Welsh Golf Unions as the Winter base for their Elite Teams.

The course was designed by Peter McEvoy and this is what he has to say about it:

"We have created a course which really can be enjoyed by players of all different standards, we have kept the fairways generous and ensured that the less expert player can enjoy and improve his game whilst absorbing the awesome landscape and views that encompass The Indiana.

On the other hand, every hole has features which can be brought into play; the springs, watercourses, dry river beds, rock and cactus areas and bunkers are strategically located to examine the skills of golf's leading players when playing off the championship tees.
